John Lewis Bed Valance

A bed valance is a decorative sheet that is placed in between your bed frame and mattress. These add add a sense of style and elegance to your room by covering up the lower half of your bed. John Lewis are known for being providers of high quality and stylish products.

A bed valance is particularly useful if the frame of your bed is open and has been used for storage. The John Lewis bed valance can cover up the cluttered look of under-bed storage. The two types of John Lewis bed valance available consist of a platform or a fitted valance.

Platform vs a fitted valance

A platform valance only covers the lower supporting part of the bed or box spring. A fitted valance covers the mattress , so the drapes are longer in order to cover the whole depth of the bed. The fitted part of the valance operates in exactly the same way as a fitted sheet. It is important to consider whether you or a partner is a fidgety sleeper, tossing and turning often during the night, as a fitted valance - like a fitted sheet - can easily come loose under these conditions and become uncomfortable. A fitted valance will also need laundering more often than a platform valance, since the platform valance does not come into direct contact with the body.

Materials

A John Lewis bed valance can be made from a variety of materials such as Egyptian cotton which has a high thread count and is very soft. The valances can also be of cotton blends, polyester or silk.

A John Lewis bed valance may come in a choice of designs for the skirt. The simplest, most straightforward design is a pleated valance which has a plain skirt with pleats at the corners. Other pleated styles may have some extra pleats along the sides and end of the bed. A frilled valance is more ornate, as the name suggests, and can have a series of pleats giving a rather rippled effect. A ruffled valance is even more ornate and the skirt can have different layers of material providing a full-bodied effect.
