Preston Fishing Hooks

Preston fishing hooks are popular amongst professionals and amateurs all over the world. Preston offer a range of fishing products for all styles of fishing, from saltwater fishing to freshwater, from angling to pole fishing and their range of hooks is vast. There's as much choice of hooks as there are with Preston rods . For years, hooks have been a fisherman's best friend helping to catch fish in freshwaters and saltwaters, holding a variety of artificial, processed, dead or live baits. Nowadays, fishing hooks come in a huge variety of sizes, shapes, materials and should be chosen dependent on purpose.

Sizes of fishing hooks

Size makes a big difference and there's a lot of choice specifically within the Preston brand. Choose the size of your hook based on the bait and fish in question. A hook too small could result in it being swallowed by fish, or a hook too big will be too obvious and will be avoided. In the Preston brand, the PR 22 size 12s would be best used for pole fishing with baits such as meat or worms, or the PR 23 size 24s would be best for small fish in still waters with small baits such as maggot and punch breads.

Types of fishing hooks

Different shapes of fishing hook do the job differently. J hooks will fit into a fish's mouth and catch something on the way out, choose small hooks for bluegills and large hooks for larger mouths such as those seen on pikes. Alternatively, circle hooks, which are less traditional but increasingly popular, work when the fish move after picking up the bait. Large circle hooks suit bigger fish like groupers and sharks, while small circle hooks could catch smaller fish like carp or catfish.

Bait hooks feature barbs on the shaft to hold bait in place that differ depending on whether you're a beginner, intermediate or professional. Other hook types include fly hooks and lure hooks, each designed for individual purposes.
