JUNE TABOR A CUT ABOVE
It is almost impossible to overestimate this JT masterpiece-when she is at her best June is utterly without peer, and on this album she was at her greatest. Part of the albums charm is ably supplied by the Excellent Martin Simpson, but as always Junes vocals are what it is all about-from the jaw dropping ENTRACTE-Admiral Benbow-through the almost laugh-sung Flash Company,to the utterly AWESOME finale that is Unicorns, the album is thrilling and perennially fresh. Any negatives? Regrettably a couple of the arrangements could have done with a more minimalist approach, and it is pretty short. ALL IN ALL A FANTASTIC ALBUM-9 OUT OF 10!!!

Various Artists-The Voice of the People
This cd,a preview-compilation of Topic's MAGISTERIAL series of the same name,is Pure Gold.Quite fantastic-enthralling from end to end. Every track is a priceless gem-it seems almost churlish to select any particular track for individual praise. If pressed to do so.I would have to highlight Sam Larner singing In Marlborough Town-simply fantastic; Scan Tester and Rabbity Baxter's splendid instrumental, and of course the Imperious performance of Bold William Taylor by the great Joseph Taylor-magnificent. The compiler has done a super job with this cd-if you like folk music,or great performance,or wonderful tunesmanship, then BUY THIS DISC.

John Martyn-Sunday's child [remastered/expanded]
A great album of John's seminal period, which was one of the least successful to be digitalised. This remaster has revolutionised the sound quality, and at the same time recaptured all the original mystique of some of Johns finest work lost in the muddier early cd of the same. Just listen to the Brilliance of My Baby Girl-all beauty and obsessive devotion;or the stark magnificence of Spencer the Rover, and then experience the mellow beauty of Call me crazy. This is A real Gem of an album, which for once is enhanced rather than diffused by the bonus tracks-why have we been robbed of Ellie Rhee for thirty two years? An absolute five star ten out of ten must have-if you are new to John Martyn this one is a real cracker-if you already have the original disc upgrade!!
