Never trust a hippy, as one svengali-like manager of a certain band used as a mantra. But trust ain't in it, really; because a lot of the most intelligent punk came from people with roots in the hippy/free love/anarcho scene... Crass, spring most readily to mind. And here we have the pot-headed pixies of the UK and France, led of course by Aussie beatnik and inspiring geezer Daevid Allen; and with splendid support by guitar wonder Steve Hillage (later of System 7)..... Doing what, exactly? Well, the clue's in the title...from the intricate and mystical visions of the 'Radio Gnome' and 'Camembert electrique' to the angry assault here. Quite a progression, but quite logical too. Gong always were more than stoned hippies; they were angry and articulate, too: as evinced here.
Recommended to all who wish to discover a poorly-known gem; as the spirit of '68 and the situationists comes to the shires and these leafy shores.
