Downhill, 'Four old friends,192 miles, what could possibly go wrong?' UK DVD VG
14 Aug, 2017
This is a comedy drama, not a documentary!
I am writing this review in response to the previous review which seems to miss the point. This is not a documentary, it is a comic drama (though it is filmed as a spoof 'fly on the wall' amateur documentary). The coast to coast walk is merely a device to bring the four old friends back together and play out their assorted mid-life crises in each other's company. The lack of fitness, or laziness of certain members of the team is significant to the story and provides some dramatic tension and opportunity for humour, if they'd all been marine commando fit and enthusiastic, it would have made for a very lack-lustre comedy. The roué character played by Ned Dennehy is indeed sleazy, some might say 'gross', but he is also a figure of pathos and gets his comeuppance - he also provides a nice little twist at the end. The film reminds me most of a 21st century 'Three men in a boat', if you enjoyed that, I think you'll enjoy this.
