Roby Duke 'Down To Business' 1989 ALBUM - VERY RARE CD - Christian / BLUES
02 Feb, 2022
Why Isn't This Already In Your Collection? Are You Crazy?? LoL
Contrary to BenjiRabbit's Nov2020 review (which pertains more to the condition of the item received as opposed to the music itself) THIS 1989 "Down To Business" cd album by Roby Duke is an absolute MUST HAVE (Christian or not) = For one, the production value is astounding! You will experience an "ear-gasm" of delightful sonic pleasure and wonder why other pro-engineers fail to create such a pure sound that's full, without compression, and plenty of space for the sound to breathe... This alone is worth the $40 price of a good Like New or Near Mint copy (take your chances on Good or Acceptable listings and you might end up with one similar to BenjiRabbit's copy with damaged & unusable front inserts) ~ The music itself is far from what anyone might expect or suspect from a "Contemporary Christian" artist -- Roby Duke's rich blue-eyed soul vocals, supported by rhythmic arrangements more along the lines of the best West Coast Groove jams, are guaranteed to make you move and groove -- There are a few dreamy, even ethereal songs, they are no less tasteful, full of lush keyboard pads, artistic acoustic guitar fills, and subtle percussive movement that keeps the compositions flowing forward -- Among the highlights are "Nonetheless" (an astounding slow-jam), the up-tempo tracks "Dreams Alive", Modern Man", and the title track, the dreamy "Thief On The Hill" and "Rain" (awesome vocal backing by Tim Miner, Alfie Silas, Angie Alan, Bill North, and Cindy Cruse-Miner), and the CCM radio hit "I Shall See God", but rest assured that with the following heavyweights on board, there is NO FAT / NO FILLER on any of the songs on this album!! ~~ Personnel: John "J.R." Robinson - drums; John Patitucci - bass; Paul Jackson, Jr. - guitar; Marty Walsh - guitar (Eddie Money, Kenny Rogers, Supertramp, Neil Diamond, Donna Summer, Gary Wright, Matthew Ward, Seals & Crofts, Crystal Lewis, tons of others), Alex Acuña - percussion (who HASN'T he played with?!!? Okay, Metallica and Lady Gaga, but pretty much everyone else); Richard Souther -keyboard; Steve Tavaglione - woodwinds; Roby Duke - guitar, keyboard, lead & backing vocal, producer, groove master ~~ Roby, you left us too soon... We miss ya, Bro, but we'll never forget ya!

Rare & HTF A Must For Seawind Fans!!
SEAWIND Keyboardist & Sax player Larry Williams has assembled a crack unit featuring Pauline Wilson (vocals), Dave Carpenter (bass), Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), Chuck Findley (trumpet), Gary Grant (trumpet), Jerry Hey (trumpet), and Bill Reichenbach (trombone, bass trombone, euphonium). It's no surprise that Pauline shines on "Invitation" and "'Round Midnight", and the overall sound quality of the ensemble is superb with the like of Tommy Vicari at the Engineers helm. The final track, "Straight, No Changes", will throw you for a delightful loop that will leave you with a huge smile ~ This rare & hard to find album is a recommended "must" for Seawind fans!!

Unique & Not The Same Old Thang= YES!!
This album is a refreshing & eclectically creative step of faith that ventures "outside the box" of the typical style of what's labeled as Contemporary Christian Music. Authentically introspective, confessional, responsive & unique, which I think is so wonderful because as people, as well as much of the "Christian music industry", we can get comfortable & predictable in our "routine" of what we like & do. Our Father & Creator is anything but routine, into ritual, predictable, in-a-box, and pre-packaged!!! It's like Fresh Manna, not the same old thing that's already been done before!
