American Barns and Covered Bridges
Eric Sloane has the gift of capturing the beauty and interesting aspects of times gone by. Written in this exceptional text are explanations of the abilities of the lowly people of the times; abilities such as bridge and barn building that far surpass the cold, lifeless structures of today. Besides the written word, pictorial representations drawn by the author that preserve tools and other items used that have long been forgotten. I had searched for the the original text published in 1954. Having visited the pages several years ago from a library copy; I searched far and wide for one of my own. A must for those that wonder about yester years.

Our Vanishing Landscape
Contained in this text are visual and written treasures of times forgotten. The author shares with the reader a unique opportunity to visit times when farm and family were the strength of the community. The excellent visual examples contained in the text are so descriptive that they enable the reader to understand the author;s written word. What a wonderful journey the author takes the reader on. The reader is able to unwind and relax as they visit the life of their ancestors. I had searched for this text since reviewing a library copy some years ago. I was very happy to see that it has been reprinted and available to the general public.
