The best iPod for music and podcast listeners.
This is the best iPod ever made. Although it does not have the battery life of the newer versions, nor the features, it has everything one needs to listen to music and podcasts. The space it has, 30gb is enough for a very large music collection and a generous array of podcasts. I have used the newer "classics:" the 6th and 7th generations, their new features--other than battery life--are superfluous. The "cover flow" feature is laggy and unnecessary. The updates to the interface are not improvements. The worst thing about the later iPods is that they are extremely difficult to repair, replace the battery or upgrade. Opening the things are extremely difficult and impossible to accomplish without at least minor damage. The fifth generation can easily be upgraded to a larger drive or an SSD. The battery can be replaced with a safe open tool and a bit of careful diligence. The main flaw with the 5th generation iPod is the flaw of every iPod ever manufactured--the traditional hard drive. The next "classic" model that comes out should have an SSD, which will essentially allow the thing to last forever.

Faulty batteries
Bought several of these. Most of them failed within weeks. Stay far, far away. They worked for a few days just fine and suddenly wouldn't fully charge.
