Appeal an action taken by eBay

If you believe an action taken by eBay was unjustified, you can file an appeal.

On this page, you will find information on how to file an appeal regarding certain measures eBay may take, if you believe a measure is partially or wholly unjustified.

We will inform you on a case-by-case basis when you can file an appeal. Please note the information we provide in the emails we send to you in each case. For example:

  • We have taken an action regarding content you posted. (For example, we removed a listing or review, or suspended your eBay account)
  • You reported allegedly illegal content via our reporting function or our Verified Rights Owner Programme (VeRO), and your report has been rejected in whole or in part
  • We were unable to verify your identity as a commercial seller or sole proprietor

Business sellers can also file an appeal with respect to other measures taken by eBay in relation to Policy violations.

Once you file an appeal, we’ll review it in a timely and diligent manner. If your appeal provides sufficient grounds that our decision to take (or not take) an action was unjustified, we will reverse it without undue delay to the extent as is technically and reasonably possible.

You can file your appeal at any time within six months from the day we inform you about the action (or non-action) in question. There is no obligation for you to file an appeal, but the option is always available and free of charge.

What can I do if my appeal has been rejected?

If we reject your appeal, this means that after careful review of the matter, we consider our initial decision to be correct.

In some cases, you may have the option to initiate mediation or out-of-court dispute settlement proceedings. eBay cooperates with mediators and out-of-court dispute settlement bodies to this end, within the scope of its legal obligations.

If mediation or out-of-court dispute settlement is available in your case, we will inform you about this option and about the relevant mediation and out-of-court dispute settlement bodies. For more information, see our page on mediation and out-of-court dispute settlements.

Please note that based on the eBay User Agreement, eBay is entitled and under certain circumstances even obliged to suspend the processing of appeals for a reasonable period of time or permanently, if the person filing the appeal has frequently submitted obviously unfounded appeals in the past.

What do I do if my enquiry is not eligible for filing an appeal with eBay?

If your enquiry is not eligible for being solved through eBay’s appeals process, please see our help pages or contact our customer service. For example:

  • You encounter an issue while using eBay payments services as a seller, including payment disputes, disbursement of funds, blocked payouts, or account verification
  • You would like to provide feedback or report an issue related to eBay services unrelated to payments, such as your listings, selling policies, policy violations, technical issues, product returns, or buyer issues

Here are some other help pages that may help resolve your issue:
